restoration Dom Church Utrecht

website-domkerk.jpg

I was invited by Derck Zilverschoon of the brick yard Zilverschoon Randwijk to explore the possibility of reproducing a number of ceramic ornaments for the gothic 14th C Domkerk in Utrecht. When the church was renovated in the late 1870's by architect Cuypers he introduced a number of ceramic ornaments. These are now disintegrating and need to be replaced. Zilverschoon, a specialist in bricks for restoration projects, fabricates the needed bricks and was asked to look into the possibility to replace the ornaments as well. Derck invited me to make a test piece and find out if we can reproduce them. I'm very honored and excited!

I've made a test piece. If and when it has been accepted we can start making the final pieces.

Stay tuned for updates!
