artist residency PA-F, St Erme, France

I spent three weeks in a wonderful artist residency, PA-F (Performing Arts Forum) in St. Erme. It's housed in an old girls' boarding school, until the 1960's run by nuns.

"PAF (from their website) is a place for the professional and not-yet professional practitioners and activists in the field of performing arts, visual art, literature, music, new media and internet, theory and cultural production, and scientists who seek to research and determine their own conditions of work.

PAF is for people who can motorize their own artistic production and knowledge production not only responding to the opportunities given by the institutional market.

Initiated and run by artists, theoreticians and practitioners themselves, PAF is a user-created, user-innovative informal institution."

While I was there the Summer Universtity took place, 5 weeks of self-organized meetings, exchanges, performances, each week with a different focus: philosophy, movement/performance art, photo/film, literature/poetry, music/sound, with artists from all over the world.

It was so inspiring to meet these artists and speak English all the time!

I spent my time clearing my head, researching and  finalizing some ideas for projects, and making "nature sketches" with materials from nature. For instance in the orchard I collected the fallen apples and pears and laid out a labyrinth, a found frame and dried leaves and branches became a still-life. I took pictures of them and made sketches.
